The Vice President, Edward Sekandi has called on financial institutions to provide friendly services to the youth and women so as to involve them in agri- business.

Sekandi said this in a statement read on his behalf  by the state minister of finance for planning, David Bahati.

"It should be noted that lack of affordable financial services to the rural poor has been one of the key factors that have held these areas to live abject poverty. I appeal to financial institutions to provide friendly financial products to the women and youth," Sekandi said.

This was at the opening of rural finance and gender equality conference in Kampala.

"It is however, now realized that without involving women and youth in production, any country or society is heading for doom," Sekandi noted.

According to Regina Bafaki, the executive director of Action for Development East African, leaders should prioritize on policies that favour the young people and women in agribusiness financing.

She explained that innovation for private sector investments should be geared towards inclusive growth, jobs and wealth creation through provision of friendly financial packages to the youth and women.
